About the Course

Building Locker Room Power - Master copy

This course looks at the key stages in developing LRP. We look at the Transformation stage with transforming narratives. We look at the building phase and constructing the Breakthrough. Finally, we look at how LRP is Strengthened and Extended

Each course unit comes with a workbook and course materials. The course is designed to progress the player through each stage and not to skip a part of the process because the player or coach thinks that they have "already done this part". For Locker Room Power to be achieved, each stage needs to be completed and all Power Points employed.

It is important to remember that if the process is followed sequentially then there is very little that stands in the way of developing Locker Room Power. There is no 'condition' or 'history' that is so deep or complex that the application of the LRP stages cannot overcome. Equally, the LRP process faces no condition or disorder that would take years of therapy to address.   This runs counter to popular thinking about personal change and transformation being a long, drawn out process. The process can begin at anytime and the second stage Breakthrough will be reached in a matter of weeks. Despite this, it is important to set aside time for the Transformation phase and make sure that under no circumstance any part is bypassed in the rush to complete (it simply won't happen).

The Breakthrough phase is not guaranteed but is far more likely to occur when the transformation phase has been completed. It is important that the Breakthrough phase is conceptualised with the player. Although the breakthrough is a form of transformation, the two stages need to be distinguished when building LRP. The main difference between the two phases is that Transformation can be done internally with the player, whilst Breakthrough is external. Transformation can be done with the player by getting them to change their narrative. Breakthrough, on the other hand, requires the player to win a tournament, a race or gain a certain position in a league.

The final Extension phase, is employed immediately the Breakthrough is achieved. The coach will need to have an extension phase plan in place. This is why we have the Extension plan built into the Breakthrough phase. The Breakthrough itself could come at anytime, though it is far more likely to happen after the Transformation stage is complete. The Extension stage will involve building a strategy to maintain the recently obtained LRP. This may require a further Breakthrough if the player is not obtaining the results that need to come during the Extension phase.  The Extension phase includes the augmentation and often change of key parts of the Transformation phase. For example, the 'story' that bought about the Transformation, will need to be revisited and revised (or even changed completely) during the Extension phase.
